Dog Training - Is Your Dog Happy With The Invisible Dog Fence

Taking your time to train your dog properly with an invisible dog fence will pay great dividends in short and long term, as it will dramatically improve its effectiveness. The manual that comes with a PetSafe invisible dog fence is carefully thought out and very simple to follow. You are shown what to do with your dog every day covering a 2 week period. Patients and having fun are the two corner stones of the training.

You can learn more about a dog fence by clicking on wireless fence.

It is recommended you take about 14 to 19 minutes each day to train your dog. Do this every day for two weeks, paying close attention to the training instructions, and within no time you will have a happy and contented dog playing in your backyard. After the 2 weeks, you want your pet to be comfortable with the invisible dog fence, if it isn’t then you may want to continue with it a bit longer.

If at any time your dog is demonstrating signs of stress, which can include timid behaviors, ears back and not wanting to walk outdoors, then put on hold the training session with the invisible dog fence. Play with your dog well away from the boundary and just have a bit of fun with him. When he is behaving normally again, then continue the training.

You will use boundary flags as part of the training. These flags are positioned around the boundary so you and your dog can see where the invisible dog fence is. At the end of each training session, you want to end up near the boundary and you want your dog to be happy and comfortable being here. The objective is to relax your dog so that he is comfortable being so close to the boundary.

Before crossing the border of the invisible dog fence, make sure you take the collar off, else your dog will get a shock. Should the dog training be going faster than the 14 day plan, you still need to continue with it for the full 14 days. It is strongly advised you stick to the fourteen day plan because reinforcing the training will ensure success in the long term. As you are working your way through the 14 steps of the training do not contain your furry friend using any other means as this will only cause bewilderment for your dog.

Is The PetSafe Fence Any Good?

If you have a dog that likes to escape from your yard or you wish to contain your dog within a specified area then you will not go far wrong with getting a PetSafe fence. The PetSafe fence is one of the best containment fences you can get. But is it appropriate for containing your pet dog?

Click here to learn more about how a PetSafe wireless fence works.

Do you have an aggressive dog? Because if you do then the PetSafe fence or any other similar electrical collars are unsuitable for your pet. If you find yourself with an aggressive dog or are not sure about the use of a fence then seek advice from your veterinary clinic or a dog trainer.

The second point you need to beware of is that the PetSafe fence receiver collar can irritate your dog’s neck and you should check for this on a regular basis. Should some skin irritation become evident, then in the instructions it advises you do not use the collar until it has all disappeared? Always make sure the contact points are clean, in good condition and check the tightness of the collar when fitting it. If the skin irritation is evident for longer than 2 days then take your dog to the veterinary clinic.

You can get different collars for different sizes of dogs. For example, you can get a collar for dogs weighing over 5 pounds, 8 pounds and 20 pounds. Your dog must also be at least 26 weeks old. With the wireless fence you only get one option. The reason why your dog must be over six months old is because it will not understand why it is being corrected and may get confused. It will end up in tears, they won't learn and the fence will not work.

Different dogs have different personalities, and so the PetSafe fence must be able to cope with all dog types. These fences have a range of settings to cater for the following personalities:

• Nervous
• Nervous or Average
• Average Energy
• Average or High Energy
• High Energy

Being able to effectively contain your dog is only one half of the advantage of a PetSafe wireless fence, the other half is the backup and support you get if you purchase the fence from Radio Fence as they give you sixty days to decide if it is for your dog, if not you can return it, plus you get a lifetime warranty on parts.
